The Republic of Latvia is a unitary state, a parliamentary republic in Northern Europe. Latvia borders with Estonia in the north, Russia - in the east, Belarus - in the southeast and Lithuania - in the south.

Population

According to estimates, 1 934 379 people live in Latvia, mainly Latvians (76.97%), Russians (8.83%), Poles (2.6%), Belorusians (1.4%).

There is no state religion in Latvia. Most of the Russian-speaking profess Orthodoxy, the overwhelming majority of believers among the Latvians of the west and center of the country are Lutherans, and Catholicism is widespread in the east of the country.

The economy of the Republic of Latvia is focused on logistics, banking, tourism and the food industry.

Latvia has signed an agreement with Lithuania and Estonia on the establishment of a customs union, and therefore the volume of trade between these countries is quite large.
