According to estimates, 1 934 379 people live in Latvia, mainly Latvians (76.97%), Russians (8.83%), Poles (2.6%), Belorusians (1.4%).
There is no state religion in Latvia. Most of the Russian-speaking profess Orthodoxy, the overwhelming majority of believers among the Latvians of the west and center of the country are Lutherans, and Catholicism is widespread in the east of the country.
