Ladies and Gentlemen!

Latvia is a friendly state for Belarus, an important and reliable international partner. When we have opened the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Latvia in the city of Mogilev, we created another promising platform for the development of good neighborly relations between the people of Latvia and Belarus, as well as fruitful cooperation in the field of business, culture and science at the regional level.

Knowledge of national history and culture, understanding of traditions, respect for the interests of each other provide a good foundation for the development of mutually beneficial and partnership relations between the Belarusian and Latvian people.

However, the main engine of partnership today is the economy. Business circles of our countries see that politicians are ready to provide businesses with a green corridor. Mutual interests make us like-minded people and associates us in an effort to ensure the economic development of our countries. A healthy economy is a healthy policy. Moreover, this is a good reason to accommodate each other.

The work on establishing close contacts, especially in the transit industry between Latvia and Belarus has chances, both as on the diplomatic and political plane as at the level of business contacts.

The volume of Belarusian cargo transported by rail in the direction of the Latvian harbor is growing rapidly. This fact instills confidence that Riga can become even closer for Minsk. In addition, many people already represent Riga as the sea gate of Belarus.
